Training Session1.  Learn 2 Learn

We had to decide whether to use volunteers or a specialist teacher. We appointed a specialist teacher, but for the second year we had to use volunteers. This proved to be an excellent plan as it meant that teachers began to use the materials in their own class. Pupils took a year to get used to Learn 2 Learn: for example, brothers and sisters hadn’t done it; 5th/6th year pupils weren’t used to it. However, after a year it became a very popular and worthwhile course valued by young people in Springburn Academy.

2.  4-Stage Cycle

The 4-stage cycle is school policy. However, like all policies, it takes a while for this to be universally embedded throughout the school. This is still an ongoing process.

3.  Visit to Cramlington

Three years ago, almost half the staff were able to visit Cramlington Community High School. This was very well received by staff, who came back very challenged and enthusiastic. The challenge is to try to replicate this result with new staff who have not had the opportunity to visit.

4.  Alite Training

The School of Ambition funding allowed the school to train almost all staff in Active Learning. That amount of training is no longer possible as the funding isn’t available. But there are now teachers who are able to provide the training, provided this is built into the school C.P.D. plan.

5.  S1 Residential

The S1 Residential is continuing. However, each year the school has to work out how to fundraise.
