News Letter 2 2015

4th September 2015

Dear Parent/ Carer,

I write to inform you of some sad news for Springburn Academy, Mr Craig Hamilton, DHT S1/2, will be retiring at the end of October after being in the school since 1999.  He has been teaching for 37 years and has never lost his enthusiasm for working with young people.  Mr Hamilton will be greatly missed by the staff, pupils and all of the many parents who have entrusted their children to his care over these years.  Mr Hamilton leaves the school to pursue “life after work” and has many plans to fill the days ahead, but he will no doubt keep an eye on Springurn Academy’s future and may well come along to an event or two.  So we will be saying a bientot and not au revoir, auf wiedersehen and not goodbye!

Before he leaves, Mr Hamilton will again be taking S1 pupils (and some S2 mentors) on a trip to Loch Eil between 5th October and the 9th October, all monies should be paid for the trip by now, if anyone has any issues regarding this please contact Mr Hamilton or myself directly.  He will also take a reward trip for S1/2 to Scotland V Germany football match on 7th September; tickets have already been issued to those pupils with appropriate merits who wish to go.

Other news from the school includes:

S1 interviews have successfully begun this week to see how pupils are settling into their new school.

S5/6 parents’ seminar took place last night with parents finding out about the new CfE Highers and PTs giving advice on supporting pupils with their study.  S4 parents’ seminar will take place on Monday 14th September at 5.30pm, please come along if you have a child in S4.

The Parent council had their first meeting of the session on Tuesday night and welcomed some new members, please come along to the next meeting (Tuesday 6th October at 6.30pm) if you are interested in joining the parent council.

At all of the parental events I am canvassing parents’ opinion on “What does the school do well?” and “What could the school do better?”, if you are unable to attend any of the meetings and would like a say please email your views to headteacher@springburnacademy.glasgow.sch.uk.

Regards,
