S3 Social & Vocational Studies

Last October, Mrs Sheikhly's Soc and Voc class got involved in the Shoebox appeal, doing research into different countries and organising goods to be put into shoeboxes and sent to Eastern Europe and remote areas in Pakistan where women have no access to any sort of toiletries. The group organised and sent off some fantastic shoeboxes.

The class meets 3 times per week with the emphasis on problem solving, increasing self awareness and developing new skills.  Another project was to make Christmas mugs which were sold at Springburn Academy's Christmas Fayre.

In January, the group made a presentation to the whole of the Third Year at Assembly, to demonstrate some of the work that they have been doing with Lifelink Youth, and focusing on how teenagers can manage their emotions. The presentation was interesting and invited participation from the Assembly. It was a daunting thought for the group to do this in front of their pals and classmates but they managed very well and received compliments from the Third Year!

The group are currently working on "Skills for Riding and Maintaining a Bike". Working with Sport and Leisure, they have so far covered how to ride a bike safely, completing an obstacle course and how to repair a puncture. Joe Brannan who is our Active Sports Co-ordinator organised all of this and has worked alongside our Coach Phil for some of the time.

As one pupil wrote, "this is a wonderful experience and I can't wait to continue with the classes!"
