Hair-raising November!
Question: What do the following members of staff have in common? Mr Cochrane, Mr Williams, Mr Douglas, Mr Squire, Mr McAvoy, Mr Penny, Mr McBryan, Mr Stewart ..?
Answer: They will be growing a moustache during the month of November to raise awareness of Men's Health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer. And they'll be raising money for charity, too.
Why?
- Because the average life expectancy for men in the UK is four years less than women.
- Because more than 1 in 3 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
- Because prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the UK. Over 40,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year.
- And also to give the pupils of Springburn Academy a “wee laugh” at the teachers who are growing a moustache during the month of November.
Donations can be made through the Springburn Academy Teachers Movember web page. If the school can raise up to £4,999, Mr McAvoy will dye his moustache green, white and gold in the last week of November, to show his support for his favourite team.
However, if the school can raise £5,000+, Mr McAvoy will dye his moustache red, white and blue!
